Marissa Ann McAneny came into this world on March 27, 1990 and the world instantly became brighter. She was a wonderful bundle of joy and happiness who changed John & Jacki’s lives immensely. Marissa was always smiling no matter what. From a very young age, she was a self-less and caring person. When her younger sister, Patrice, came into the picture when Marissa was just the age of 1, she immediately became overly protective of her sister and was constantly rushing to help her or take care of her in any way possible.

From Marissa’s teenage years she knew that she wanted to be a nurse. She loved helping others and knowing that she made a small difference in someone’s day, so going into Nursing was Marissa’s one and only option for her career.

Who We Are
Marissa’s Mission Foundation has been started in memory of our daughter, Marissa, who lost her battle to Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in June 2018. As she spent her time in the hospital or visiting the clinic, she realized how many people are impacted by this disease and wanted to pay it forward. The desire to help others was one of Marissa’s defining characteristics.
To celebrate the anniversary of her bone marrow transplant, she hosted her first fundraiser, allowing her to help Taylor, 3 year old girl diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), who loves princesses and Christie, a 28 year old woman, who had just purchased her first home, fighting AML. On her second anniversary, she hosted yet another fundraiser, even after she had just relapsed for the third time. Marissa’s main focus continued to be helping others. This time Marissa raised money to help two patients from the hospital floor where she spent her days and nights and even managed to sign up more than 50 people for Be the Match.
The foundation is continuing Marissa’s mission of helping others and promoting awareness about a disease that has taken and forever changed too many lives.
